I was born in Ranam, North Korea in 1932 where my father was an officer of the
I entered high school in Tokyo in 1948. In the vicinity where my dormitory was
located are different kinds of trees which served as inspiration for me to excel
in drawing/sketching. I've always gone to the place to draw using drawing paper
and pastel crayons.
Mr. Takashi Shimizu who was a student of Antoine Bourdelle and a professor of
Musashino Art University saw my works and became interested. He strongly
advised me to enter Art school. After graduating from junior college, I went to
Musashino Art University and graduated in 1958. During the same year I came to
In 1965 I held my first art exhibition. I displayed 20 pencil drawings. In 1968 I held
my second exhibit with the title "The White Square of a Tile".
I was glad that Mr Kusuo Shimizu of Minami Gallery thought about the idea of
doing a private exhibition at the Muramatsu Gallery in Ginza as this opened more
opportunities for me.
I got married in 1969.
Unfortunately, my husband died due to a malignant lymphoma in 1998. He
suffered from heavy progressive rheumatism for more than 20 years.
At present, I live in Kyoto with my son.
My hometown is Ichinoseki.
It is the southern part of Iwate prefecture located in the north east Japan.
